Special Thanks:
I would like to thank all the people who helped me on this project. Without your commitment and time, I would not have been able to complete this series. I would also like to take the time to thank Kevin Hanna my production manager on this project, without him, my vision for the series could not have been realized.

The Red Line: Revisited

I am interested in memory of place and how we are affected by it. This project explores that idea by photographing banal landscapes in portraits of events and people. I accomplish this by using photographic techeniques estabished by crime scene photographers. Below is one of many examples I used as reference for this series.

Below are the first photographs that I took in this series.

It only took me three days but I finished color correcting and adjusting this image.  I think it came out great I only have three more to go before I am ready to print.  It looks like I may have to re-shoot two if the images before I can print.

After I finish these images I will begin to work on a companion video piece and re-shoot the other two photographs for my upcoming show in Normal IL.

Location: Local Thrift Store
Today I walked upon another great location and scene for my series.  On 18th place there is a small thrift shop run by two women.  Many of the neighborhood women shop here for their families while waiting for their children to come out of the grade school accross the street.

New Location for series
Today was such a nice day, I decided to walk the neighborhood with my camera hoping to capture something.   On 18th street there is a tire repair/grocery store, which I have walked by many times.   As I was walking by today I saw a man sitting in the rocking chair and a women coming out with bags in her hand.  Before I could pull out my camera they had both walked away.  It turned out that the man was waiting for his wife who was the woman coming out of the store.

The photo is of the store's entrance where I saw them and where I will b recreating the scene.

Aguja: la marca de tiempo
For each photograph there is a corresponding needlepoint that is being created.  The idea is that as the series grows, so do the needlepoint panels that will ultimately form a quilt.  The needlepoint idea is inspired by my great-grandmother.  When my grandmother passed away my mom started to take care of her grandmother my great-grandmother.  Every morning she would wake up and needlepoint.  It was the one thing that made her very happy and is something that I will always remember.  In honor of an amazing woman, I have decided to incorporate this element into the series.  In a way, I also feel close to my great-grandmother as I create the quilt.

Quinceañera
I am getting ready to start a new photograph in my series.  This image is based on a very traditional Mexican event the Quinceañera.

Last summer as I walked the neighborhood I witnessed this event many times.  The next Photograph will depict the private event that happens before the large celebration.  The blessing in front of the immediate family. This is also when the God-parents present the 15 year old girl her first pieces of jewelry as a woman.

I have just completed the alterations on the dress that will be worn by the Jessenia, I am still working on the needlepoint for this scene once completed I will be ready to take this photo.
